SKID ROW Is 'Not In Any Rush' To Release New Album

SKID ROW guitarist Dave “Snake” Sabo has confirmed to Paul Anthony of Planet Rock that the band is putting the finishing touches on the final chapter of the “United World Rebellion” trilogy, which will tentatively be released in 2020. The disc is being tracked at a Nashville, Tennessee studio with producer Michael Wagener, who also helmed the group’s 1989 self-titled debut and 1991’s “Slave To The Grind”.

SKID ROW‘s new disc will mark its first release with South African-born, British-based vocalist ZP Theart (DRAGONFORCE, TANK, I AM I), who joined the band in 2016 following the departure of Tony Harnell (TNT, STARBREAKER).

Speaking at Planet Rockstock 2019 about SKID ROW‘s songwriting process, Sabo said (see video below): “Y’know, the thing is the case with the band has always been ‘best idea wins.’ It doesn’t matter who it comes from; it’s a very democratic process, to be quite honest. And [ZP has] brought some great, great ideas — he’s brought to the table. So, to have that be interjected into the relationship that Rachel [Bolan, bass] and I have as a writing team, it’s inspiring. It makes me wanna be able to say, ‘Here’s more. What do you think of this? What do you think of this?’ And he’s not shy about hearing something and going, ‘Man, that’s really cool.’ Where I would be, like, ‘Oh, really?’ I wouldn’t even think twice about it, but then, all of a sudden, he starts going, ‘No, seriously. Do this or do this.’ Then, all of a sudden, you’re going, ‘All right.’ A fresh set of ears and eyes.”

ZP chimed in: “When we started, there was no limits put [in place] — how much I’m allowed to give. It’s not something that was talked about. And the more the ideas came out, the more I started liking them. I was thinking, ‘Yeah, I can seriously put [some of my vocal ideas] in here.’ For the whole creative process, it made it fun.”

Added Snake: “For us, to have that sort of outside set of eyes and ears and be interjecting something that I would never have thought of, or Rachel would never have thought of, that’s pretty cool, man — it’s pretty inspiring. Again, it opens up all new avenues that maybe we haven’t gone down before.”

Asked when SKID ROW‘s new album will see the light of day, Snake responded: “We’re almost done. We finish up this tour on the 9th [of December] and then take a little break for the holidays. Well, not really, ’cause we’re starting some mixes and stuff like that. So we’ll see how that goes. We’re not in any rush. We don’t wanna put out anything that doesn’t meet what our standards are, if you will — if we have any standards. [Laughs] We wanna make sure that it’s the best thing that we could possibly do at this particular moment in time.”

SKID ROW‘s new album, which will be made available through Australia’s Golden Robot Records, will feature collaborations with several outside songwriters, including Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR) and Lzzy Hale and Joe Hottinger of HALESTORM, a group that covered the title track of “Slave To The Grind” on its “ReAniMate: The CoVeRs eP” in 2011. SKID ROW also worked with songwriter-for-hire Marti Frederiksen, who has previously collaborated with AEROSMITH, DEF LEPPARD, Jonny Lang and Sheryl Crow.

Unlike 2014’s “Rise Of The Damnation Army – United World Rebellion: Chapter Two” and 2013’s “United World Rebellion: Chapter One”, SKID ROW‘s forthcoming release will be a full-length record.
